The 2024 Festival Langues, Arts et Cultures, run by the Éducation nationale service in Saint-Martin, ended with a closing evening on Friday 3 May 2024. Pupils performed songs, music, dance and choreography, Le Pélican reported, bringing two weeks of activities celebrating multilingualism in schools to a close.
The festival was the third edition and was shared with St. Barth, where the Journal de Saint-Barth covered the opening ceremony. Its theme was "Soyons égaux dans notre diversité" (let us be equal in our diversity).
What pupils did
According to Le Pélican, children from nursery school to lycée took part in activities and challenges during the fortnight. Events included a history and geography lesson taught in English, an art exhibition opening, school "Olympiads" in the Paris 2024 Olympic year, and a Solidarity Concert with a specialist music class. The education service also ran competitions throughout the festival.
Why it mattered
According to the Journal de Saint-Barth, the annual festival aims to highlight the cultural and linguistic richness of the two islands. Le Pélican described the 2024 edition as a source of real hope and ambition for the territory's young people.
