The opening ceremony began with a wreath laid at sea in memory of fishermen lost at sea. Collectivité president Louis Mussington attended with elected officials, Prefect Cyrille Le Vely and two representatives from Anguilla, according to Le97150.
A tribute from father to son
The highlight of the day was a tribute to Vanion Hodge senior and his son Vanion Hodge junior, who were both honoured on stage for their work for the community, the outlet reported. Tourist Office president Valérie Damaseau paid tribute to the father as a traditional fisherman who taught young people respect for the sea, and described the son as an inspiration for a new generation of mariners.
In his speech, Mussington said the day was a chance to thank the island's fishermen and that the Collectivité would keep working to make the event last, according to Le97150.
