Louis Mussington, President of the Collectivité de Saint-Martin since 2022
Louis Mussington has led the Collectivité de Saint-Martin since 3 April 2022, when all 23 territorial councillors elected him president after his RSM-led list won the March 2022 elections.

Louis Mussington has been President of the Collectivité de Saint-Martin since 3 April 2022. He led the Rassemblement Saint-Martinois (RSM) list, which won a majority on the Territorial Council in the March 2022 territorial elections.

Background and earlier career
According to the Collectivité, Mussington is a native of Saint-Martin who left the island as a child to study in Guadeloupe and became a teacher. The Collectivité says he was politically active very early, taking his first political actions at the age of 16.
He was elected general councillor of Guadeloupe for Saint-Martin's first canton in 1998, succeeding Louis-Constant Fleming, became a regional councillor of Guadeloupe in 2004, and has sat on the Territorial Council since the first Collectivité elections in 2007, according to the Collectivité.
The Collectivité also says he chairs three of its commissions: on revising the rules and the organic law, on tenders, and on territorial planning.

Head of the RSM list, 2022 territorial elections
For the second round in March 2022, the RSM list joined forces with Valérie Damaseau's Alternative list. The combined RSM-Alternative majority took 16 of the council's 23 seats. Team Gibbs 2022 won 5 seats and Génération Hope 2022 won 2, according to Le97150.
President of the Territorial Council and of the Collectivité, since 3 April 2022
- The council elected him on Sunday 3 April 2022, at its first sitting of the 2022–2027 term. All 23 councillors voted for him, according to La 1ère and Le97150.
- He succeeded Daniel Gibbs.
- As president, he also chairs the seven-member Executive Council, which was elected the same day.
What the role involves
The President of the Collectivité leads both the Territorial Council, the French side's elected assembly, and its Executive Council. The president is elected by the councillors after each territorial election.
What happens next
His current term runs until the next territorial elections. These are set for Sunday 14 March 2027, with any second round on 21 March 2027.
