The 2022 Carnival on the French side of the island was cancelled, Faxinfo reported on 17 February 2022.
Gaëlle Arndell, president of the Festivités Carnavalesques de Saint-Martin association, announced the decision in a statement, according to Faxinfo. She said the organisers had tried to plan a programme that fitted the health situation, but that administrative complications had prevented it.
According to the association, talks were still under way with the authorities about holding the event later in the year. Arndell encouraged residents to celebrate King Vaval with family, friends and colleagues in the meantime.
