Reported 25 May 2023.
The 21st annual St. Martin Book Fair, which was scheduled for 1 to 3 June 2023, was postponed, the Book Fair Committee (BFC) and the Conscious Lyrics Foundation (CLF) announced in May 2023. Caribbean Today and The Daily Herald both reported the decision.
The CLF, the lead organiser of the island-wide literary festival, said a new date to celebrate the fair's 21st anniversary in 2023 would be announced soon. The organisers said they were supporting the recovery of the festival's coordinator and working with community partners to keep planning.
What had been planned
The 2023 edition had the theme "resistance". According to the BFC, 35 authors and workshop leaders from both sides of the island, the wider Caribbean, the United States and Asia had been set to take part. Caribbean Today noted that Trinidad's Caribbean Beat magazine once described the fair as "international and multilingual to the core".
A pre-book fair play, Spitfire: The Lohkay Story, which had been due to premiere at Loterie Farm on 31 May, was also postponed. Ticket holders were told to keep their tickets for the new show date, Caribbean Today reported.
