Reported 21 November 2024.
Saint-Martin's chamber of commerce, the CCISM, organised two public meetings on 25 and 26 November 2024 to look for ways to bring life back to the centre of Marigot, Le97150 reported.
According to Le97150, both sessions were held at the CCISM. Among the ideas put up for discussion were a "shopping promenade" through the town centre and a gift card that could be spent in local shops.
The meetings were open to traders, residents and anyone interested in the future of the French side's capital. The aim was to gather views before deciding on concrete measures.
Marigot's shopkeepers had been warning about falling footfall and empty premises in the town centre. A walking route linking the shops and a gift card are tools used in other towns to keep spending local and encourage people to stay longer.
Le97150 reported the plans on 21 November 2024, a few days before the first session.
