This page covers Saint-Martin only. On the Dutch side, businesses register with the St. Maarten Chamber of Commerce & Industry (COCI) in Philipsburg.
What the CCISM does
The CCISM was officially created on 17 July 2009 as a local public body. It does the work that three separate chambers do in mainland France: commerce and industry, trades and crafts, and agriculture. It says it represents more than 9,000 businesses in Saint-Martin.
Its main services for entrepreneurs are:
- Business formalities centre (CFE). A team of three handles registering, changing and closing businesses in commerce, services, industry, crafts and agriculture.
- Advice appointments. Sessions with experts, some free and some paid, on financial and legal questions.
- Required training. The courses certain new business owners must take.
- CARE. A support programme with partner organisations to help businesses get back on track and set up properly.

How to register a business
- Book a formalities appointment. Use the "Rendez-vous formalités" booking on the CCISM website to see a CFE agent.
- Prepare your documents. Sole traders follow the CCISM's checklist. It includes proof of where the business is based, such as a commercial lease, an approved business-address (domiciliation) contract, or proof of your home address less than three months old.
- Ask about the training and fees. Some activities require training before you start. Ask the CCISM for the current fees when you book, as they are not listed on its main pages.
