Grand Case Beach: a guide to the French side's village beach

Where Grand Case Beach is, how to get onto the sand, what to expect, and the ARS 6 August 2026 water-quality result.

Grand Case Beach (plage de Grand-Case) is the village beach of Grand-Case, on the north-west coast of the French side of St. Martin. It runs along a sheltered bay just behind the village's main street, the boulevard de Grand-Case.

Where it is

The beach lies in the Collectivité de Saint-Martin and follows the curve of Grand Case Bay. Restaurants and houses back directly onto the sand, so this is a village beach rather than a resort beach. The bay also has a pier.

Getting there

The beach is public. You reach it on foot from the village street, through the gaps between buildings.

What it's like

The bay is long and sheltered, and the water is usually calm. There are no big resort facilities. The beach is part of everyday village life, with the dining strip just steps away.

Water quality

Bathing water at Grand-Case is monitored by the ARS, the French State's regional health agency. In the ARS check of 6 August 2026, reported by Soualiga Post, all six French-side sites tested, Grand-Case included, had water rated good for swimming. At Grand-Case, E. coli and intestinal enterococci were both below 15 per 100 ml.

Results are a snapshot of the day the samples were taken. For current results and sargassum advice, check the ARS Guadeloupe bathing-water page before you swim.

French-side rules apply

Grand Case is on the French side, so French rules and the ARS apply, not Dutch-side regulations. Prices in the village are in euros (EUR).
