Le Sommet Foundation held its first Craft and Farmers Market in Philipsburg in May 2023, 721news reported on 15 May 2023.
The market
According to 721news, vendors sold locally grown fresh produce, local crafts, drinks, health and skin care products, and herbs and spices. A vendor quoted by 721news said turnout was good and that she hoped the market would grow. The next market was set for 27 May 2023.
Bigger plans
Foundation president Fabio Doralice said the market was "a step in the right direction" but not the end goal, according to 721news. He said the foundation's aim was a stable and sustainable agriculture industry on the island, including animal husbandry, which he said had not received enough attention.
Doralice said the foundation would now focus on setting up an agriculture association to give farmers technical support, training and links to markets, and to speak for the industry as a single legal body, 721news reported. He linked the effort to the island's food security.
