Members of the St. Maarten Lions Club welcomed pupils at Helmich Snijders Hillside Christian School and Ruby Labega Primary School in Sucker Garden on the first day of the 2024–25 school year, The Daily Herald reported.
The club handed out snacks, water and juice and greeted new and returning pupils as they headed to their classrooms, according to the Herald.
Club president La-Teen Clark said the members wanted to make the children feel excited about learning and show them that the community supported them. The project was organised by Youth and Education Committee chair Denise Williams-Warner and her committee, the club said in a press release.
The Lions Club described the back-to-school welcome as one of several projects it runs through the year to support students and families.
