Reported 12 July 2024.
Saint-Martin's Maison des Femmes, a centre that supports women who are victims of violence, was officially inaugurated in Marigot on Tuesday 9 July 2024, SoualigaPost reported.
According to the outlet, the centre is run by the victim-support association France Victimes 978 and can welcome up to 15 women a day. SoualigaPost said it was described at the inauguration as the 22nd structure of its kind in France.
A Maison des Femmes brings several kinds of help together in one place, so that women do not have to tell their story many times to different services. Support can include listening, guidance and referral to legal, medical and social help.
The opening gave the French side a dedicated local place for women facing violence, rather than relying only on services spread across different offices or located off-island.
SoualigaPost's report on the inauguration was published on 12 July 2024, three days after the ceremony.
