The building

According to Faxinfo, the courthouse in the centre of Marigot was designed by architect Ali Tur more than 90 years earlier and is regarded as a historic building. Original features from the 1930s, including the columns on the façade and the floor tiles in the upstairs courtroom, remained visible.

The work

Faxinfo reported that the French State committed €350,000 to renovate the historic part of the building, to improve working conditions for judges and clerks and the reception of the public.

A new courthouse planned

The outlet also reported that the building was due to be vacated by 2025. After Hurricane Irma, the State found the premises did not meet earthquake standards, and judged the cost of bringing them up to standard too high, so a new courthouse was planned.
