Marigot's traders prepared a large spring braderie for April 2024, with shop deals from Friday 5 April and about 60 market stalls in the town centre on Saturday 6 April, Le Pélican reported.

The figures came from Yann Lecam, president of the town's traders' association, who told Le Pélican that the association had 70 members.

Lecam also painted a difficult picture of trade in Marigot. According to the association president, of 12 shops that had opened recently, eight were closing. That figure is his own assessment and was not independently confirmed.

A braderie is a street sale where shops bring discounted stock out onto the pavement and stalls line the streets. Traders hoped the event would bring shoppers back into the centre of the French side's capital.

Le Pélican published its preview on 2 April 2024, a few days before the shop deals began on Friday 5 April.
