The competition to design a flag for Saint-Martin closed on September 30 with 42 designs submitted, the Collectivité de Saint-Martin said in an October 2 release.
What happens next
A jury will review the entries and select 10 finalists. Those 10 will go to a public vote in October, with dates and details still to be announced, the Collectivité said. The vote will help determine the three proposals that move on to the final selection stage.
The vote is advisory. "This is not a referendum," the Collectivité said. The public result is converted into a score that counts alongside the jury's assessment, and the jury chooses the winner. Under the competition rules, the winning design then goes to the Territorial Council for adoption.
The three top-scoring proposals face a validation interview with the jury, including a check that the work is authentic and was not made with artificial intelligence. AI-generated designs are not allowed, according to the rules.
Installation on December 7
The flag's official installation is planned for December 7, 2026. The Collectivité stresses that the flag will complement, not replace, the French national flag.
The project is led by the Collectivité's Direction de l'Action Culturelle. Details of the vote will be posted on the project's official channels, including mysaintmartinflag.com and @MySaintMartinFlag.
Background
The project launched in April 2026 with community workshops and an online consultation. The design contest opened in August.
