Angèle Dormoy, a businesswoman and president of the CCI de Saint-Martin, has spoken publicly about her breast cancer to encourage other women to check themselves and get screened. She gave the interview to Le97150, whose journalist Ann Bouard spoke with her for the first instalment of the outlet's "Parole de femmes" series for Octobre Rose.
Le97150 reported that Dormoy hesitated before speaking out, and that after some months of reflection, and with encouragement from her sisters, she chose to testify for the sake of other women, especially those who are in good health.
Found between two mammograms
Dormoy told Le97150 that she found a small lump in one breast through self-examination, between two mammograms. She was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer and is now in treatment. She said the experience is why she insists on self-examination and early detection.
Her message to women
Dormoy told the outlet that people think about a thousand things each day but sometimes forget to make their health a priority. "If my experience can encourage one woman to see a doctor or to have her mammogram, then speaking out will have been worthwhile," she said. She added that she did not want it to be the story of Angèle Dormoy, but hoped it would push other women "to do self-examination and to go and get screened."
