Teams of ecologists and naturalists will carry out environmental surveys in districts across Saint-Martin, the French side of the island, from Thursday 15 to Wednesday 21 October 2026, the Collectivité de Saint-Martin said in a press release dated 8 October.

The surveys are part of the partial revision of the Plan d'Occupation des Sols (POS), the land-use plan for the French side. The Collectivité has given the work to the consultancy Antilles-Guyane Environnement (A.G.E.).

What the teams will do

The teams will record the fauna, flora, natural habitats and wetlands in several districts. They will move around each area and temporarily install acoustic recorders to study wildlife.

The surveys take place at dawn and at night, between 9pm and 6am, so residents may see survey teams in their neighbourhood after dark.

What residents should know

  • Team members carry an official mission letter issued by the Collectivité.
  • Surveys on private property need the owner's prior agreement.
  • Questions can go to the Collectivité's Urban Development and Housing Department, whose contact details are in the release.
