Residents of Saint-Martin can now help choose the territory's first flag of its own. The Collectivité de Saint-Martin is holding a citizen advisory vote that runs through October 21, 2026 (Saint-Martin time), according to the official vote page, on its project website, My Saint-Martin Flag.

The official site stresses that this is not a referendum. The new flag is meant to sit alongside the existing symbols and will not replace the French national flag. Official adoption is planned for December 2026, according to the Collectivité. Soualiga Post reports adoption on 4 December.
According to Faxinfo and Soualiga Post, ten finalist designs chosen by a jury are on the ballot, and the public vote will be weighed together with the jury's assessment. Soualiga Post reports that each design comes with the author's explanation of its symbols and colours.
How to vote
Faxinfo describes the process as follows (official vote site: mysaintmartinflag.com): go to the site, browse the ten proposals, select your favourite and confirm your choice. A message then confirms that the vote has been recorded. According to the official vote page, people can vote once every 24 hours, so supporters can come back each day. Faxinfo adds that the vote is open to everyone, with no age limit.
How we got here
The Collectivité launched the "My Saint-Martin Flag" project on April 15, 2026. A public consultation, with four community workshops and an online survey, ran from May to June. The design contest was open from August 11 to September 30. The project is led by Louis Mussington, President of the Collectivité, and Valérie Damaseau, President of the Culture Commission.
Soualiga Post reports that a graphic designer will then make technical adjustments to the winning design.
