The dates were set by French government decree no. 2026-913 of 28 September 2026, published in the Journal officiel on 1 October. All 23 seats on the council are up for election.
How the vote works
Saint-Martin uses list voting in up to two rounds. You vote for one complete list of candidates and cannot add, remove or reorder names.
If a list wins an absolute majority in the first round (with at least a quarter of registered voters), or comes first in the second round, it receives 8 bonus seats. The other 15 are shared among all lists, the winner included, by proportional representation.
Councillors are elected for five years, under the Electoral Code.
What it means for voters
- Polling hours are 8 AM to 6 PM local time on both voting days.
This election is for the French side only. It has nothing to do with Sint Maarten's parliamentary elections.
What happens next
Parties and groups can now prepare their lists. First-round voting is on 14 March 2027, with any second round on 21 March 2027.
