The Slavery Memorial Committee and the NAAM Foundation (National Archaeological Anthropological Memory Management) signed a framework agreement in Willemstad on Friday, October 16, to cooperate through 2029, 721news reported. Lucia Beck-Fox, the Committee's director for the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, and NAAM director Dimitri Cloose signed it, according to 721news.
The Sint Maarten angle
One of four initiatives is an inventory of existing publications and research on the history of slavery on six islands: Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint Eustatius and Sint Maarten. 721news reported that the findings will inform a research agenda.
Other initiatives
The others are "100 Aña Ompi Elis", a programme marking the centenary of Elis Juliana in 2027; a collection, digital map and knowledge bank of the Committee's projects on the six islands; and a pilot to make the Zikinzá collection of about 1,400 audio recordings accessible.
