The electronic music festival SXM Festival returned in March 2022 for its fifth edition, launched at a press conference at Hommage Hotel on Tuesday 8 March, The Daily Herald reported.

Organisers said more than 70 local companies had helped prepare the event and that they hoped for 7,000 participants, according to the Herald. Mighty Dow's Ebony Steel Orchestra performed at the launch, playing steel pan mixed with techno.

Faxinfo reported that residents of the island were offered 50% off tickets, and that a vaccination pass or a negative PCR or antigen test was required for entry. Happy Bay remained the main night-time venue, with other events at Boho Beach Club, according to both outlets.

The two tourism directors, May Ling Chun of the St. Maarten Tourism Bureau and Aïda Weinum of the Saint-Martin Tourist Office, both spoke about the festival's economic impact, the outlets reported.
