The reopening of the former Beach Plaza hotel on Marigot Bay, which is being rebuilt as The Whimsy Hotel & Spa under Accor's MGallery brand, slipped past 2025, and no firm new date had been reported, SoualigaPost reported on 24 March 2026. The hotel was still closed at the time.

A long rebuild
According to SoualigaPost, the hotel had been closed for several years after Hurricane Irma badly damaged it in 2017. Its owner, Terres de Légendes, found financial partners to rebuild it, and the reopening had already been pushed back more than once before this latest delay.
In 2024, Terres de Légendes signed a partnership with Accor. The group said the hotel would reopen as The Whimsy Hotel & Spa, its first MGallery Collection property in the Caribbean, with a revised plan of 165 rooms, 40 of them suites, SoualigaPost reported.
TourMaG, reporting on Saint-Martin's presentation at the IFTM travel trade show in September 2024, wrote that tourism professionals on the island were eagerly waiting for the works to be finished. It said the 165-room hotel would mark Accor's return to the Antilles, at a time when the French side was promoting a smaller, more authentic accommodation offer of about 1,500 rooms.
Project still on, timetable changed
Asked by SoualigaPost, Accor said the project was still going ahead in partnership with the owner. The group said the project had been reviewed and reworked since it was first announced, which led to a change in the timetable and pushed back the end of the works. Accor gave no reopening date.
At 165 rooms, the hotel would be a sizeable addition to the roughly 1,500 rooms TourMaG counted on the French side in 2024. No new opening date from Accor or Terres de Légendes had been reported as of SoualigaPost's March 2026 article.
