The airline began flying three times a week between St. Maarten and Barbados, with onward connections to Martinique and Dominica, according to the Herald. It also added two weekly flights linking St. Maarten, St. Lucia and St. Vincent.

Hub connections

Winair chief executive Hans van de Velde said the routes would let passengers from the three islands connect through St. Maarten to North America and beyond, the paper reported. Airport chief executive Brian Mingo said such hub connections were important for tourism and the region's economy.

At the time, Winair operated three ATR 42-500s and five Twin Otters and was marking 63 years of service, according to the Herald.
