Fabian Adekunle Badejo: Claude Wathey's biographer and host of 'Culture Time'

A short profile of Fabian Adekunle Badejo, the writer and broadcaster who wrote the 1989 Claude Wathey biography 'Claude – A Portrait of Power' and founded PJD2's long-running 'Culture Time'.

Fabian Adekunle Badejo is a writer, journalist and broadcaster who has made St. Martin his home since 1981. He wrote "Claude – A Portrait of Power" (1989), a biography of Dr. Claude Wathey, and is the founder, producer and host of "Culture Time" on PJD2 radio, which marked 35 years on air in September 2022. House of Nehesi Publishers says he was born in Nigeria and is a former Nigerian diplomat.

"Claude"

His biography of Claude Wathey appeared in 1989, according to House of Nehesi. In July 2024 the Democratic Party donated 10 copies of "Claude, the biography written by Fabian Badejo" to the University of St. Martin, the university reported.

Poetry

His collection "Fantasies – Love-making poems", published by House of Nehesi, was launched at the opening of the St. Martin Book Fair on 1 June 2018, StMaartenNews reported; SMN News listed it in the fair's guest-author biographies the next year. The fair marked its 20th edition in 2022.

"Culture Time"

SMN News, republished by SXMElections, reported in September 2022 that "Culture Time", the PJD2 programme Badejo founded and still produces and hosts, had clocked 35 years on air.

Arts and journalism

According to House of Nehesi, Badejo directed the St. Maarten Council on the Arts in the early 1980s and was "the motor behind" the arts festival SMAFESTAC, which he coordinated in 1982. Between 1989 and 2008 he was managing director and editor, publisher and news director of The St. Maarten Guardian, St. Martin Business Week and Today. He also wrote "Salted Tongues – Modern Literature in St. Martin" (2003), the publisher says.
