Collectivité de Saint-Martin crews cleaned up and landscaped part of the Marigot waterfront in November 2023, ahead of the tourist high season. The work followed the demolition of the old lolos building on the Front de mer the month before, Le Pélican and Karibinfo reported, both quoting the Collectivité.

What was done
According to the Collectivité, agents from its living-environment department cleaned, repaired, painted and tidied the area between the amphitheatre esplanade and the taxi parking. The amphitheatre seating was restored and repainted white. The ground where the lolos had stood was levelled to make way for a new tree-lined esplanade, with about twenty flamboyant and neem trees planted inside low rounded walls that double as benches.
A wooden shelter was also being built on the site to house the market inspectors' office and an electricity room. The Collectivité said the aim was to give the Marigot seafront back its role as a lively, welcoming place for visitors and residents.
Next phase
The Collectivité said a further phase of works would begin in 2024. It planned to demolish the old seafront school to open the town centre onto the sea, with shaded walkways linking the Collectivité's offices to the Front de mer and connections between the centre and the Boulevard de France.
